I am so utterly jealous of Gabby. Right now she is attending the Broadway musical, “Cinderella” ON BROADWAY. She is there with around 100 other choral students from high school, and so far having a blast!
Gabby has loved musicals for as long as I can remember. When she was little we made a deal that when she turned 16 I’d take her to New York City and go see a Broadway musical together. I was a little disappointed when her choir teacher announced that this year’s Spring Break choir trip would be to none other than New York City.
She has been working all year to save money to pay for the trip. We are extremely grateful to those who have helped her along the way, especially my Dad who allowed her to come clean his townhouse once a month, and to those who contributed to her fundraisers.
These choir trips are planned down to the minute, it’s pretty amazing. The first day they left at 4:30 in the morning, and stopped in Waverly, Iowa for a choral workshop and performance. Then they drove 19 hours to NYC, stopping for dinner and driver changes. They arrived this morning. I got a text at 6:30, when they were supposed to be eating breakfast saying she was almost there, and then another saying she was there a little while later. Today’s itinerary has them performing at Pier 83, a Manhattan harbor tour, shopping in China Town and Little Italy, Ground Zero and the 9/11 Memorial, a trip on the Subway, dinner in Times Square, and then attending “Cinderella.”
When they get to the hotel at 10:45 (I love how it’s planned to the minute, that’s my style!) they get checked into their room and then a piece of tape is put on the door. The piece of tape better be there in the morning, or they get in trouble. Genius!
A few other notable things she’ll be doing the rest of the week is performances at the Cathedral of St. John the Divine and Lincoln Center; free time in Times Square, Central Park, American Museum of Natural History, Metropolitan Museum of Art; tours of 30 Roc, NBC Studios, and attending the musicals “Newsies” and “Matilda.”
I am so excited to have her back and just listen to her talk about all her experiences!
